Welsh Mountain Ponies In North Wales

Our broodmares at Llanalyn all descend from traditional North Wales bloodlines made world famous by Coed Coch and Gredington.
Matings are planned with a great deal of thought and care.  We don’t think of our mares as ‘machines’ and don’t necessarily breed from them every year.  Our aim is to produce ponies that are hardy and sound, with the scope, quality and movement to enable them to give and receive a lifetime of pleasure.
Some of the mares at Llanalyn we think deserve a special mention – and they are:-

Lacy Little Miss
By Gredington Andreas x Birchwood Mist by Coed Coch Planed

Lacy Little Miss

Little Miss is directly line bred to the legendary Coed Coch Planed.  She is an exceptional paddock mare who has never failed to produce a quality foal.  She is the dam of 2 Champions to date – Llanalyn Alaw and Llanalyn Little Gem – but watch this space!
Llanalyn Mist
By Kinmel Mikado x Llanalyn Misty Morning by Saltersford Justin

Mist was a big winner for us in the showring as a yearling and was shown once as a five year old, winning the Novice Brood Mare title at the Denbigh & Flint County Show.  Her first foal, Llanalyn Music, was a County Show prizewinner on his first appearance in the showring.  This year's foal  is by Polaris Lionheart.
Lacy Delia
Gredington Andreas x Gredington Dilys by Coed Coch Bleddyn

Lacy Delia

Dam of Llanalyn Aelwyn, winning yearling colt at The Royal Bath & West Show, who is now being broken to harness, and Llanalyn Dilys, exported to Spain in 2003.
We are very privileged to have at Llanalyn three beautifully bred mares from the late Mr Shem Jones’ Bwlch y Gwynt Stud.  Shem Jones was for many years Head Stud Groom at Coed Coch and the handler of what we consider to be the greatest Welsh Mountain Pony of all time, Coed Coch Madog.  Please visit www.nerwynponies.co.uk for more history of Coed Coch.

Bwlch y Gwynt Mehefin
By Coed Coch Saled x Coed Coch Mari by Coed Coch Madog
Dam of Medal Show winning filly Llanalyn Seren Mehefin.
Bwlch y Gwynt Ceri
By Nerwyn Cadno x Treharne Kismet by Treharne Robin

Bwlch y Gwynt Ceri

Dam of Janneke de Rade’s Dutch National Champion Bwlch y Gwynt Caryl and grand-dam of Heniarth Cupcake – see www.heniarth.com).  Also the dam of Llanalyn Calennig and Llanalyn Coron-y-Gogledd, exported to Spain in 2003.
And finally:
Polaris Dinah
By Polaris Royal Flush x Twyford Diamond by Twyford Puzzle"

We were so very pleased to purchase, and bring home to North Wales, the lovely old mare Polaris Dinah from the Polaris Stud Dispersal Sale in 2004.  She produced a beautiful filly foal for us in May 2005, by Nerwyn Telor.  We have named her Llanalyn Daisy May.

Visitors are very welcome but please phone first.
